What is the issue?
When attempting to connect your phone to your BlackVue camera and this fails, an audio prompt "Direct WiFi connection already in use" plays. You may also repeatedly hear this message play while using the camera.
Why is this occurring?
As the prompt suggests, this error message can occur when more than one device is attempting to make a connection the BlackVue camera via Wi-Fi. Since the BlackVue can only accept a single incoming Wi-Fi connection at any given time, this message will continue to play as long as two or more devices are trying to connect.
There is a chance that this could be a product fault if there are no smart phone (including yours) or tablet devices within proximity and the camera announces the WiFi in use message continually - this is a much rarer case however.
What can be done to prevent this?
To prevent this from happening, you will firstly need to ensure that only one Wi-Fi device is attempting to establish a connection to the BlackVue at a time. Something else to consider is that many smartphones often employ Wi-Fi auto-connection/join features, which enables smart devices to automatically attempt Wi-Fi connection to a saved Wi-Fi network in range. If a partner or family member has also connected to your BlackVue before, this error message could arise from their phone/tablet automatically connecting.
If you are still struggling to find the cause of this issue with the above in consideration - here are some things you can check:
1) Smart watches (Apple Watch, Samsung Gear, etc.)
Many users will often have their smartwatch device paired to their smartphone. As a result, the smartwatch may also copy Wi-Fi settings of the phone and attempt to connect to Wi-Fi networks that your smartphone has saved. You can disable the Wi-Fi of your smartwatch completely or disable Wi-Fi auto join/connect to the BlackVue camera Wi-Fi network to ensure your smartwatch does not automatically attempt connection whenever in range.
2) High-end vehicle head units (Apple CarPlay, Pioneer head unit, etc)
Many complex vehicle head units have in-built Wi-Fi functionality and are another possible culprit. Please check the Wi-Fi settings on your vehicle head unit to ensure that it is also not attempting to connect to your BlackVue camera.
